It is a joyful experience working at St.Xavies’s Inter College. As I work with these young blooming buds, I always ask myself whether these young minds are well-prepared to face the tough competitive world as they move the of the portals of this institution. The challenges that is laid on educational instituions of today is tougher than it was a few years ago. Thus it is a herculean task to mould these young growing children into responsible citizens of tomorrow.
As all of us understand education should nurture the total personality.It should basically take into consideration the intellectual, moral, physical and emotional dimensions of a child.The picture looks quite sad as present day students give a lot of importance to intellectual growth alone while they neglect the other important dimensions of their personality. That is why Steven Muller, the President of Johns Hopking University has rightly said, “Universities are turning out highly skilled barbarians because we don’t provide a framework of values to young people, who are more and more searching for it.”
Only Knowledge trains the head while value-based education trains the heart and the whole person, In fact,the education that does not train the heart could be very dangerous. This aim of preparing responsible citizens of sound head and heart can be achieved if the educational institutions and parents work together
